Unleashing Creativity: My First Steps as an Artist

|

Curious about what it takes to become an artist? Follow along as I begin my art journey. I’ll share my experiences, challenges, and progress. Let’s explore creativity together!

I’ve always wanted to create, to draw, to paint, and to share my unique ideas with the world. However, I never had the courage to present myself and my art to the world. I’ve always been waiting for something or someone to push me, help me, or make me do it. Well, that ends now because I no longer want to be waiting in the wings.

I’ve been drawing, sketching, and painting on my phone or tablet ever since I’ve had one. I’ve always fully enjoyed it but I knew that it was time to upgrade. At the beginning of this year, I finally decided to invest in a graphic tablet. I resolved to use it as often as possible to learn, practice and improve.

Initially, I decided to test my skills by drawing my first two pieces without any preparation or practice. It was a very experimental process; I didn’t know the program and my tablet well, but I still managed to create my first two artworks. The first one depicted a house next to the lake. And the second one portrayed a girl from up close. I intentionally chose two completely different subjects so I could compare them to my future progress.

After completing my initial artworks, I knew there was much room for improvement in my skills. Determined to hone my craft, I created a list of areas I wanted to focus on. Those were: shapes, form, shading, texture, poses, usage of different brushes, perspective and line art. Armed with this roadmap, I delved into a wealth of tutorials and references, eager to absorb as much knowledge as possible.

I committed myself to practice, dedicating every available moment to refining my abilities. While my journey was not without it’s setbacks and failed attempts, I found solace in the learning process. With each stroke of the digital pen, I grew more accustomed to my graphic tablet and the software I utilized, Krita. Here are some examples of my work from this period:

In addition to my focused practice on fundamental skills, I also heeded the advice of fellow creator and began drawing scenes from movies and series to refine my understanding of colors and composition. This technique proved invaluable in enhancing my artistic repertoire, and I highly recommend it to aspiring artists looking to broaden their abilities.

Now, 3 months into my journey, I stand here with the creation of Oktavia—a platform that not only serves as a gallery of my work but also offers a glimpse into the inner workings of an artist’s mind. Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand my reach and share my art on even more platforms.

With Oktavia as my canvas, I am committed to sharing my art with the world, with each piece serving as a reflection of my evolving skills. Yet, beyond mere showcasing, my ultimate aspiration is to inspire others to embark on their own artistic journeys—to embrace their passions, conquer their fears and unlock their full creative potential.

As I anticipate what the future holds, I invite you to join me on this exiting adventure. Together, let’s paint a more vibrant and imaginative world, one brushstroke at a time.
